A teenager's memories of the lock-down : Part 01

Hello everyone, I am back again! In the previous post I had just given you all an introduction to my blog 'Unfurling Thoughts'. So, today what shall I write about?

Yeah, got the idea! Today, let me write about my lock-down memories.

So, today, I am going to write about my early lock-down memories.

If everything had been normal, I would have been at school for a few mornings already by then. My tuitions would have started as usual. During the evenings, I would have been out as usual, playing with my friends. But alas! The curse of nature upon mankind this year prevented me from doing most of the things that I normally do during my session break, and you know, it was becoming increasingly difficult for me to cope with the loneliness.

Well, if you would have just talked to me, you would have said, "Hey! Is this guy really in the present or still in the past? Does he know that the COVID-19 pandemic has really hit the world, or is he still thinking that it is still in China and will travel the whole world on foot?" Such was my state of mind! My mind was still in the past, and it took me some time and quite a bit of an effort to bring it to the present. I just could not believe that this pandemic had really struck us. But, yeah, I can assure you that after a few days I knew that this wretch of a virus was travelling on a motorbike and would keep changing its vehicle until it managed to get hold of the 'Thrust SSC'. But, who gave this virus a motorbike and from where will it get the 'Thrust SSC'? You know--we humans gave the motorbike to the virus, and it is from us that this virus will get the 'Thrust SSC', in the days to come. Our carelessness and tomfoolery helped this virus get a motorbike and will help it again to get the 'Thrust SSC'.

From December to March--India underwent a massive change in those few months. People were still shopping for Christmas gifts and cakes in the month of December. But this virus--sorry, this wretch of a microscopic virus brought even the largest democracy in the world to a standstill! Can you believe it?

I suddenly remember one more thought which came to my mind then. My school's Proclamation Day was drawing near, and I was seriously worried about it being cancelled, because it would mean literally disaster for me! You know, I cannot stay away from my friends for long. On the Proclamation Day, I get to see my friends after a long wait of about half a month. But what to do! The world cannot go as I wish. As expected, my school cancelled the event. Sigh! No proclamation of results, no distribution of books, no reunion with friends--life could not be more boring! But, there was no other way out--it was absolutely necessary to contain the flames of infection.

The Government, at first, announced the Janata Curfew on the 22nd of March. I thought that it would be just a one-off decision. But, I was left disappointed. At first, the State Government announced lock-down for seven days, and then the Central Government announced lock-down till the fourteenth of April. What a calamity!

Yeah, it's true that my school started online classes a few days later, but tell me, can online classes really bring the feeling that we have when we really are at school?

Mid-April--do you realise the significance? Well, it's the time when many festivals are celebrated in India. Also, quite a lot of local Indian calendars begin during this time, such as those of the Bengalis, Punjabis, etc. I thought that okay, the year gone by will take away with it all the difficulties and sorrows, but, tell me, has it really happened?

Well, that's been pretty long.  I will write more about my lock-down memories in the upcoming posts. In the meantime, let me know if you have any suggestions, queries, etc. and I will get back at the earliest.

Thank you.
