Happy New Year 2021 : Old tears and renewed hopes

Welcome back, one and all! Let me at first wish all of you a very Happy New Year 2021. May the coming year bring us a reason to hope, to smile and to cherish. So, another year goes by, as each one of us begin to weave a new fabric of renewed joy and hope : not only individually, but also as a society. Last year, the wretched virus (COVID-19 will be a wretched virus for me, forever ) attacked the fabric, leaving many tears in it. Let's hope that this year, we can keep this fabric intact, and can keep our memories embedded in it, by the time we have to bid goodbye to 2021. We will weave this fabric with the finest thread on Earth. The thread is not available anywhere, save the core of our heart.  My maternal grandpa today shared a poem of his with me, in relation to the new year being happy. I would like to share it with all of you:- বিষ নিয়ে বিশ এসেছিল হেথা তাকে বিদায় জানাতে নাই কোন ব্যাথা। এবার এসেছে নতুন একুশ জীবন সবার থাকে যেন খুশ। (Translated, in prose form : 2020 came to us to...

Reviving my blog

Welcome back!! I know I haven't posted anything on my blog for quite some time : more than two months. How would I? My God! These two and a half months, beginning from August, have left me literally exhausted. Examinations kept me occupied in this period, and it is only today that I find some time to write something on my blog. Anyway, today I just want to wish you all a Happy Diwali. Today also marks the birthday of Chacha Nehru. So, I would also like to take the opportunity to wish all my friends a Happy Children's Day. Let us make our nation great in the coming days. Oh, I forgot to mention one thing.  I am quite aggrieved you know, because I can hear the sound of crackers being burst in my locality.  Please do not burst fire crackers this year. I personally love to burst crackers. But, nothing is going to happen if we do not burst crackers this year. We should only light candles this year to decorate ou r house. The COVID-19 patients are going to face serious probl...

The New Normal : Rethinking and Redefining

Aloha! Well, I know I haven't written for quite a few days. But, I am back today! So today, I am going to write about something which, to many of you, will be very, very--I don't know what. It may seem very weird to you, or it may seem very surprising. You may strongly agree with this, or you may start hating me after this post. But, believe me, it is absolutely necessary to think about it, because we haven't thought about it earlier. Or maybe some of us have? Well, just a few days ago, I was reading, in Geography, a chapter called 'Population Dynamics'. There, in the gender composition, I was reading why, particularly in India, the female composition is so less. Varied reasons. I hope you can understand what I want to speak about today. Anyway, statistics say that the gender ratio of India in 2001 was 933 females per 1,000 males. And what was the ratio in 2011? It was only 940 females per 1,000 males! Many of you might say, "Yeah, so what's the matter ? ...

A teenager's memories of the lock-down : Part 03

Welcome back everyone! Hope you all are safe. Well, the monotony of life has already reached its zenith, and I don't expect the devil to come down soon. Well, so today I am going to write about my memories of the  'Unlock' stage and I assure you, there will be something for you to laugh about somewhere in this post. Don't miss it. You know, during the first phase of the lock-down, I was seriously worrying about the numbers. As the days passed by, I just became more and more ignorant about the numbers. What was the use? Nobody would give me a Nobel Prize for remembering numbers--all that was happening was that tension was finding its way out within me. Later, during the 'Unlock' phase, I simply stopped worrying about the numbers.  Let's not discuss those today. I have already written about them in my previous two posts. Let's discuss something new. Now, here's one thought that came to my mind yesterday. What did Rousseau say? He said, "Man is bo...

A teenager's memories of the lock-down : Part 02

Welcome back everyone! Hope you all are at home and are keeping well. You know, nowadays if we fall ill or something like that, the whole family starts fretting. So, it is absolutely necessary to keep ourselves fit both physically and mentally. Actually, it's nothing new right? The doctors and other experts have always told this, ever since the lock-down started. But, how many of us have been following those rules and taking those precautionary measures, that too accurately? I will talk about this today, though of course, I will also write about my mid lock-down memories in this post itself, as I had promised you earlier. Well, so Lock-Down 2.0 began, as far as I can remember, on the 15th of April. The virus had already started raging in many parts of the world : Italy, China, the USA, Spain, etc. India's figures were then still a ' molehill' , when placed beside those ' Himalayan' figures. My God! The stories, circulating then on WhatsApp, were simply horrib...

A teenager's memories of the lock-down : Part 01

Hello everyone, I am back again! In the previous post I had just given you all an introduction to my blog 'Unfurling Thoughts'. So, today what shall I write about? Yeah, got the idea! Today, let me write about my lock-down memories.  So, today, I am going to write about my early lock-down memories.  If everything had been normal, I would have been at school for a few mornings already by then. My tuitions  would have started as usual. During the evenings, I would have been out as usual, playing with my friends. But alas! The curse of nature upon mankind this year prevented me from doing most of the things that I normally do during my session break, and you know, it was becoming increasingly difficult for me to cope with the loneliness. Well, if you would have just talked to me, you would have said, "Hey! Is this guy really in the present or still in the past? Does he know that the COVID-19 pandemic has really hit the world , or is he still thinking that it is still in Chi...

Beginning of a new journey

Hello everyone, I am Aishik Bandyopadhyay.  I am thirteen and am a Xaverian, from Durgapur.  Today, I am writing a blog for the first time. The current Covid-19 pandemic has forced all of us to stay at home now. During this time, I hear that many people are getting bored of staying at home. Well, I don't quite agree with them. Take me as an example. Personally, I feel that many of us can come up with more and more activities to keep ourselves engaged. I am writing this blog because I felt that instead of sitting idle and wasting my time, why not utilize it to explore and discover my interests! I got the inspiration of writing a blog from my respected English teacher, who too writes a blog. So, for quite some time, I was pondering over the idea of writing a blog. One day, my interest, of writing a blog, knocked at my door louder than ever, and when I opened it, he said, "Hey! Why don't you go for it if you really want to?" I said, "Okay, let me think." But he...
